こそあど言葉 are what are known as "demonstrative pronouns" in Japanese. words refer to things(or abstract ideas/places/etc.) within the speakers vicinity, or things having to do with the speaker. words reference things that are closer, physically or otherwise, to the listener than the speaker, or things(or abstract ideas/places/etc.) that are slightly far from both listener and speaker. words reference things(or abstract ideas/places/etc.) that are far, physically or otherwise, from both the speaker and listener. And lastly words are question words, so they reference information that the speaker wants to know.
